HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY JEWELLERY?
A SKIN DEEP PIECE IS MORE THAN JUST A JEWELLERY PIECE. IT'S AN INVESTMENT AND TAKING CARE OF IT WILL MAINTAIN ITS SHINE AND PROLONG ITS LIFE SPAN.
Jewellery is sensitive to humidity and air quality. Storing it in a dry place may be the best you can do. Make sure to never store more jewellery pieces in one box, unless there is designated space for each of them. We recommend storing it in one of our individual boxes. Most importantly know that your skin ph levels may alter jewellery's surface. In this case remember that it's not irreversible. Use a special jewellery cloth to clean it from time to time. You may soon find some in our shop. Here are a fews notes to keep in mind while wearing the jewellery:
1. Avoid exposure to any chemicals or strong products (perfume and/or cosmetic products).
2. Remove your jewellery when bathing or swimming, in the sauna and especially when going in a jacuzzi. Not only it may alter its surface but it can easily harm your skin from the high temperature.
3. Avoid contact with chlorine, sand and saltwater.
4. Avoid using them when at the gym just to keep them away from extra knocks and sweat. It's best to not wear them during sleep to avoid accidental damage.
If you don't have a special jewellery cloth in hand, try using soap, lukewarm water and a brush to clean the surface. Make sure you rinse it properly with clean water. This technique is a bit tricky for gold plated items, since they are more delicate and require special treatment. So it's best to use that special jewellery cloth with care. Even so, it won't remove any scratches.
Keep your jewellery in padded jewellery boxes, stored alone or wrapped, along other pieces. Try avoiding places with direct sunlight, heat or intense humidity. If you don't own many jewellery boxes, you can use small airtight polyurethane bags. Avoid any other type of material, e.g. rubber boxes which may cause oxidation. Keep in mind, even though Skin Deep boxes may be the best choice, they are not airtight, therefore the items may experience colour alteration due to lack of use.
We cannot guarantee that the gold-plated items won't lose colour over time. They are more fragile and their colour is predisposed to fading over time. This depends on various factors, like use of perfume, creams and other chemical products, sweat, pH level and the type of the jewellery. For example, rings have a tendency to lose colour easier, whereas a necklaces plating can resist for a longer period.
